“RECALIBRATION”
Once upon a time I had the privilege of working within the Sabi Sands, Kruger National Park. The witnessing and experience of the raw wild and the magical animals changed my life.
The word that come to my mind when reminiscing about this time is RECALIBRATE.
When you hear the roar of a lion or witness the towering elegance of a giraffe mere metres away from you and the powerful, highly intelligent elephants, it changes you. Forever. In a profoundly deep way. The best way I can relate this, and that which I intend to share with the viewer is how this wild of Africa re-aligns your soul and puts everything within you back in its harmonious place.
With this piece, that is my offering - with colours inspired by the peachy African dusk.
That mysterious time of day which is calm and peaceful and so uniquely African!
About the technique - highly tactile and heavy with oil paint.
Featuring many palette knife markings borne of a trance-like state rendering spontaneous, intutive marks.
I would love to have the viewer experience the oil painting itself as an artists palette.
You are part of my creative process, not merely a witness of the end result.
